We’ve gone into international band overload here in Canberra just in time for spring. We kick off the month with two shows at The Basement this weekend with Swedish lords Dragonland kicking off on Friday the 7th with Darker Half, Immorium and Mattersphere.
If the team at the Basement don’t kick you out, you may as well just keep drinking through to Saturday the 8th when the Canberra home of heavy hosts a super special 1h 45m set from Norway’s legendary Satyricon playing with special guests Deadspace. A huge weekend of Euro action.

Power Trip are also on the Basement guest list this month and late last week EVP Records local representation Mental Cavity were announced as the support for the show on the 23rd . Mental Cavity were also announced for the Conan/Bell Witch double header (well triple now I guess), ALSO at the Basement Wednesday November 7th.
The internationals keep on piling up with Wednesday the 26th of September seeing The Black Dahlia Murder and Aborted joined by our own globe trotting grinders Wretch for a blasting good time, once again at the Basement.
Speaking of support announcements, the annual Doomsday event featuring Japan’s Church of Misery have been announced and not content having scored the local headlining spot, Canberra’s Witchskull scored the main for the whole tour.

Also added to the show is a new Canberra two piece doom act Lusifungus who feature two ex members of Pod People and LOG. The band has just returned from recording 8 songs at Goatsound in Melbourne with proprietor Jason PC which will hopefully be available at the show in some format, but we’ll see. Chuck their FB a like to keep abreast of events and be at the Transit on October 4 early to check em out.
Superheist chose Canberra to be the first port of call when they returned last year after a long hiatus. The band have put together a huge bill of Aussie goodness for an October 13th show at the Basement under the moniker, Chaos in the Capital featuring supports from Osaka Punch, Red Bee, Highview, Noveaux, Psionic Tide, Escape Syndrome, The Lifelike Project, Time on Earth, To An End, A Gentleman’s Agreement, Chasing Nimbus, Halfwait, Talesin, Blissphorus and it all kicks off with doors at 4pm.
Canberra Metalheads will likely be at all of these events because they are staunch local metal warriors on a one way ticket to metal-blivion. Their podcast has been interviewing a slew of locals and giving the local scene a good push for quite a while now, you should go check out the show at the link above. They’re also keen to speak to local bands so get onto the boys if you’ve some news to share.
I Exist celebrate 10 years of madness at the Transit bar on November 16 with Witchskull playing main support along with the excellent Sydney doom band Potion and local anti-carnist core grindsters Bloodmouth. Dubbed Drunk for a Decade (maybe Aaron has been), it’s going to sell out, so buy a pre sale at the event page link.
Kamelot have announced a December 6th performance at The Basement as a part of a 6 date Australian sojurn, a good prog power way to get into the festive season!
