WHO: GLORIOUS! A Handel Celebration

WHAT:  Tobias Cole Opera Salon & Belco at Smiths Experience

WHEN: Sat, 7 Dec, 8pm

WHERE: Belco Arts Centre

Discover the man behind Messiah, Water Music and the Coronation Anthems and meet some of the artists he collaborated with in Glorious! a beautifully inventive Salon experience using narration, music, mime and masks to magically recreate the experience of 18th century London where Handel’s influence was arguably greater than any monarch’s.

Countertenor and host Tobias Cole, along with his Salon players, including acclaimed soprano Ayşe Göknur Shanal, Baroque violinist John Ma, harpsichordist Marie Searles and pantomimist Marcel Cole will transport you as they explore the extraordinarily rich life of George Frederic Handel. Citynews arts writer Helen Musa will lead a discussion after the show with Tobias and the other performers. And to finish there will be a rousing encore!

WHO: The Gentleman’s Companion

WHAT: Rock songs, cocktail recipes, ripping yarns – shaken, not stirred.

With a seasoning of rock standards, in celebration of the cocktail, Dianna Nixon stands ready with glass in hand and a voice that will rumble, soar, chat and cry in this solo gambol inspired by Charles H Baker‘s delicious 1939 tome of instructions for satisfying imbibement and degustation.

WHO: SciNight: Refraction – Proud to be Curious

WHAT: An adults only celebration of science and pride

WHEN: Fri, 22 Nov, 6.30-9.30pm

WHERE: Questacon

Echo Theatre takes you to the enchanted forest this summer as they bring Shakespeare’s famous comedy to life in the great outdoors.

Join the region’s finest (and funniest!) actors for an evening of laughter and romance, moonlit woods, love potions run amok and more than a few misunderstandings.

Gather your friends, bring a picnic, and celebrate summer and the power of love with A Midsummer Night’s Dream under the open sky. Note: This production uses our new Pay What You Feel method. WHO: Curated Screening: Objects in Motion

WHAT: A showcase of stop animations

WHEN: Sat, 30 Nov, from 3pm

WHERE: Tuggeranong Arts Centre

Delight in fantastical worlds where art and animation collide in a visual, sound, and sensory feast of animations screening in the TAC theatre. Showcasing multi award winning stop motion animations Imaginé (remastered) and Tunning by Eleanor Evans and Giovanni Aguilar; A Chorus of Wonders by Tom Moore, Jonathan Nix and Grant Hancock, and Tom Buckland’s Space Oddity. Plus a gallery walk before the screening at 3pm. The lakeside bar in The Space will be open after for networking with local artists and filmmakers. The curated screenings will also feature in the 2024 Canberra Short Film Festival. FREE with registration via TAC.


WHO: Mendelssohn’s ELIJAH

WHAT:  An unforgettable evening of choral music

WHEN: Sat, 30 Nov, 7.30pm

WHERE: Llewellyn Hall

As part of the annual Come and Sing programme. The Canberra Choral Society (CCS) presents Elijah, Felix Mendelssohn’s magnificent Biblical masterpiece, assembling impressive forces for this stunning Oratorio rarely performed in Canberra. Starring internationally acclaimed Operatic Bass Teddy Tahu Rhodes in the title role, with soloists from the National Opera in Canberra: Sonia Anfiloff (Soprano), Christina Wilson (Mezzo Soprano), and Damian Arnold (Tenor). Joining them is CCS’s 70-strong choir, augmented by 100 ‘Come and Sing’ Canberra choristers, and a 42-piece orchestra!

Directing these substantial forces is the Brett Weymark OAM, Artistic and Music Director of Sydney Philharmonia Choirs. Tickets are $50/$30+bf via Ticketek
