Presented by: Canberra Choral Society & National Capital Orchestra
Emerging from the enforced hibernation of 2020, the Canberra Choral Society and National Capital Orchestra are incredibly pleased to continue their traditional annual collaboration with the performance of Johannes Brahms’s Ein deutsches Requiem. This is Brahms’s most personal work – a true masterpiece that established his unmistakable musical voice and timeless reputation.
Brahms was an innovator in a traditionalist context who inspired many subsequent composers. This beautifully constructed piece for soprano, baritone, chorus and orchestra transcends the genre of a requiem. Featuring German text selected by the composer from the Luther Bible and initially conceived as a “human requiem”, the text follows an uplifting emotional journey and is a wonderful evocation of comfort and hope for the living.
Join us to delight in this sensational music for an unforgettable performance conducted by Leonard Weiss featuring Song Company soprano Amy Moore and baritone Hayden Barrington, with chorus master Dan Walker.
