OK so the print version isn’t on the streets right now, but the gigs, albums and news don’t stop cause we’re all electronic.
The recent demise of Academy wouldn’t really rate much of a mention in my column but it came a few weeks prior to hosting probably the weirdest bill that place had seen since it used to be a cinema back in the ye olde days. Cradle of Filth were due to play there as a part of their Cryptoriana world tour, but Lance and the team at the Basement stepped being the legends they are and are now hosting the show in the place it probably should have been on in the first place on the 9th of May. Tickets available through this link.
Red Fang are one of the most consistent producers of great records and deliverers of killer live shows and they’re at the Manning Bar in Sydney on the 12th of May. As a part of a 6 date Australian tour and joined by local rockers Drunk Mums, the show is an 18+ event and you can get your tickets through this link for a mere $59.95.
Knights of the Spatchcock are releasing their 17 track debut album entitled Sunblind at the Basement on the 18th of May with Tonk and Renegade Peacock. It’s the bands last ever show due to Alen moving to the Dalmatian Coast in Croatia. All the best Alen.
Also in a similar vein of the metal spectrum, USA doom rockers The Sword have announced an Aussie tour this week. They released their 6th album in March entitled Used Future and here’s the tour to support it. 2015’s High Country saw the guys drift away from the heavy Sabbathian grooves of the first 4 albums and they continue a more 70’s rock vibe on the new one, with even a hint of Kiss in the opening riff to my ears, what do you think?
The band play The Factory Theatre September 8th and you can check out the ticket packages including VIP meet and greet options at this link.
Witchskull have shot a video for the first song on their forthcoming album Coven’s Will which is due out on June 1st through Rise Above Records. They are preparing the details on their launch tour for July and the album is available for pre order all over the net on digital, CD and vinyl formats.
While I was at the video shoot, Glitoris were at the same location shooting some stills and hard at work on their new full length album being recorded with Jay Walley at his studio The Pet Food Factory in Sydney. Lots of new music coming soon.
