Five Copies Of Good Heavens’ ‘Strange Dreams’ (CD):

Good Heavens is a lesson in the law of opposites: the theory, held by Greek philosopher Heraclitus, that things become their contradictions. The new three-piece from Sydney, Australia, unites the divergent musical styles of three of the nation’s most talented rock artists: singer and guitarist Sarah Kelly, formerly of theredsunband, and ex-Wolfmother members, keyboard/bass player Chris Ross and drummer Myles Heskett. The result: a synthesis of ethereal dream-pop with the brute force of acid rock.

It was Kelly who jump-started the process that led to the band’s formation. After popular Sydney trio theredsunband went their separate ways in 2009, Kelly decided to focus her energy on songwriting. By early 2011 she had a demo ready and needed musicians to help realise it; record label Rice is Nice suggested Myles Heskett as a potential collaborator.

After their much-publicised split from Wolfmother in 2008, Heskett and Ross were wary about committing themselves to a new band. “We were also afraid of wolfsmothering Sarah’s beautiful songs,” says Heskett.

The result is Good Heavens’ stunning debut album, Strange Dreams. From the first heartbeat-like pulses of the guitar on the opening track, it drifts in and out of altered states, reflecting the trio’s shared obsession with psychedelia.

If you’d like a copy, email allan@bmamag.com and tell him, in graphic and explicit detail, about the strangest dream you’ve ever had.

Five Copies Of Supertramp: Live In Paris (Blu-ray):

Supertramp’s Breakfast In America was the biggest selling album in the world in 1979. It spawned several hit singles and went on to win two Grammys and sell in excess of 20 million copies. Following the album’s release, Supertramp embarked on a ten month world tour which arrived in Paris at the end of November. This show from the Pavillon de Paris was both filmed and recorded. The audio went on to form the basis of the 1980 live album Paris but the film was never released. Now for the first time, transferred and restored to full HD from the original 16mm film, this footage is available to Supertramp’s legion of fans worldwide. The sound has been remixed by original sound engineer and co-producer Pete Henderson from the original multi-tracks and can now be heard in 5.1. This is a legendary show by a legendary band performing at their absolute peak and is a must for any Supertramp fan. To win a copy, email allan@bmamag.com and tell him why Paris is probably the most overrated city in the world.

Five Copies Of Campus: Season One (DVD):

From the weird and wonderful creators of Green Wing (BAFTA Audience Award Winner and given four stars by the Sydney Morning Herald) comes the equally weird and wonderful Campus.

Campus is set in Kirke University, an ever-failing campus run by an extremely eccentric mix of staff. In charge is the colourful Vice Chancellor, Jonty de Wolfe, who wants nothing more than to drench Kirke in the juices of his own greatness whilst he attempts to make money for the University through any route possible. Whether it’s faked alumni, kidnapped prodigies or a range of “Eau de Kirke” perfumery, Jonty’s big ambitions consistently fall flat.

Elsewhere on campus, the staff continue to be sidetracked by the urgent matter of who to sleep with next. Philandering English Professor Matt Beer is forced to up his game in all departments, as he desperately tries to make an impression on shy Maths lecturer Imogen Moffat. Sadly, Matt is left to contemplate his rapidly greying life while his younger, bouncier, athletic student sidekick, Flatpack - who combines a six-pack body with the intellect of a piece of Ikea furniture - makes more headway with Imogen.

Then there’s gawky mechanical engineer Lydia “big shit’ Tennant, the three Graces of Admin (Big Grace, Pretty Grace and ‘Was Once A Man’ Grace), Jason the reticent accountant and Nicole the feisty accommodations officer, who all help to add more sexual confusion to the mix!

If you’d like a copy, email allan@bmamag.com and profile the strangest character you encountered on any campus you attend(ed).

Five Copies Of Jaws (Blu-ray):

Academy Award winner Steven Spielberg’s iconic thriller comes to Blu-ray for the first time ever, digitally remastered and fully restored. That Blu-ray copy you bought in Hong Kong doesn’t count. And ‘restored’… Do you ever wonder what that means?

Anyway, Jaws – the landmark motion picture that still has audiences afraid to go in the water – features an all new, digitally remastered and fully restored picture, as well as 7.1 surround sound. That way you can hear Roy Schneider’s face crinkling in the sun in crisp detail.

When it was first released in 1975, Jaws smashed box office records and became the highest grossing film of its era, earning Spielberg a reputation as a Hollywood visionary – a reputation he demolished with only one film: Indiana Jones and the Crystal Skull. Today, Jaws remains one of the highest grossing films in motion picture history (if you extend the rankings considerably) and is largely considered the film that launched the summer blockbuster (by people who are not familiar with the Star Wars franchise).

Anyway, Jaws is totally awesome and if you want a copy, email allan@bmamag.com and tell him what creature (which has not been mythologised in film) should be made into a villainous opponent and what the title of that film would be.

Ten Copies Of Irvine Welsh’s Ecstasy (DVD):

Remember Trainspotting? Oh man, those were the days. Oasis. Blur. The Chemical Brothers near their peak. Alanis Morissette. Glory years. Hedonism didn’t get more exciting than that. Well, if you don’t count Hunter S. Thompson’s entire career. Or the Stones’s ‘72 tour. Or Led Zep. Whatever, you get the point. Scottish author Irvine Welsh updated the whole drug binge thing for the ecstasy/rave crowd back in the ‘90s and one of his short stories – Ecstasy – has just been turned into a movie called, conveniently enough, Ecstasy. Fun fact: Irvine Welsh used to be a property speculator. Thanks to the good people at Universal/Sony we have ten copies of Ecstasy if you can remember one thing about 1996 that we don’t.
